Settlers Green will host a Public Art Reveal of its newest public art piece. “IO” by Rik Phillips will be revealed at 11 a.m. next to Eddie Bauer. Phillips will be on hand for the event and lend first-hand insight to the inspiration and workmanship. The 16-foot piece was inspired by Phillips’ research and reflection of the discovery of Jupiter’s red moon, IO. The bright red sculpture is reflective of the moon’s signature volcanic landscape.
Settlers Green adopted “IO” from Jerry Dougherty of Jerry’s Furniture in Intervale, NH, where it had spent over three decades. It was designed in 1988 and created in 1989, receiving media attention in The Boston Globe and was on display for an 18-month span at the Concord Art Museum in Massachusetts before becoming part of Dougherty’s private collection.
‘IO’ went through a complete restoration at Color Coatings in Wakefield, NH, and was installed at Settlers Green last fall. It is the center's first-ever art restoration project. It joins over 15 other custom art pieces along the Settlers Green Public Art Walk.
