Settlers Green hosted its 3rd Annual Plein-Air Competition during Art Night at Settlers Green on Friday, July 10, and has selected a winner from the four artists that competed. Artist Jessica Fligg of Ashland, New Hampshire, was selected as the winner for her oil painting depicting the scenes at Trails End Ice Cream in the Courtyard at Settlers Green.
“I enjoyed working on this painting while watching people with their ice cream, a simple joy in life that can still be enjoyed in these times,” Fligg said.
Additional competitors included Esther MacDonald, Barbara Stelle, and JP Goodwin, all of whom have participated in the event in the past, including Goodwin who was last year’s winner. Artists have three hours to complete their piece and can choose any setting around Settlers Green. The artwork was judged by members of the MWV Arts Association.
“As we see every year, the artists do an incredible job at illustrating the scenes and stories of the shopping center,” said Event Director Laura Lemieux. “We are so lucky to have a great art community in the Mt. Washington Valley and it is wonderful to see artists return year after year.”
All four completed plein-air pieces are on display at the Settlers Green Customer Service Office through August for public viewing. Art Night takes place the second Friday in July each year.
