Leading designer of women’s cotton quilted handbags and luggage, Vera Bradley, is opening a 3,300 square foot store at Settlers Green this spring. Well-known for its colorful, iconic prints, the company has expanded over the years to offer eyewear, stationery and gifts.
Founded in 1982 by friends Barbara Bradley Baekgaard and Patricia R. Miller, they made it their mission to bring feminine-looking luggage for women to the market. The company is named after the mother of co-founder Barbara Baekgaard. The company’s female-centric products have appealed to generations of women, from grade school kids to sorority sisters to young and middle-aged mothers to grandmothers.
“The company has had cross-generational success unlike any other in the fashion industry,” said Marketing Director Laura Lemieux. “We think the brand will really appeal to our shopper and we look forward to its success here.”
Vera Bradley’s mission is to make women’s lives better, from the products to how it gives back including the Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer, which is based out of the Indiana University School of Medicine, to the Blessings in a Backpack charity that provides food for elementary students who might otherwise go hungry.
The company has expanded into a lifestyle brand over the last decade, announcing licensing agreements to create a bath collection, sleepwear and loungewear. It has also had highly successful brand licensing collaborations with Crocs and Starbucks.
Vera Bradley has 64 outlet stores nationwide with factory-exclusive patterns. Vera Bradley Factory Outlet will be located next to Yankee Candle and Talbots at Settlers Green.
